A not for profit project to help firefighters safely and effectively rescue small animals in emergency situations

Our mission is to help provide as many fire stations as possible across the UK, with the specialised equipment and training needed, for firefighters to safely and effectively rescue small animals in emergency situations. Ensuring throughout, the protection of both human and animal lives.
We aim to do this through fundraising support and training materials so we can help protect vulnerable animals in crisis, support the wellbeing of our communities, and enhance the lifesaving work of the UK Fire and Rescue Services.
The Skyla Project launched in October 2025.
Find out how we started with an animal loving firefighter to a devastating tragedy that turned in to hope. Plus meet Skye & Nyla, the beloved pets who the project is named after.
We help supply Skyla Small Animal Rescue Kits and more – giving firefighters the training and tools they need to deliver vital pre-veterinary care at the scene.
Find out how you can support your local fire station though raising awareness of our project and helping them raise funds for Skyla Small Animal Rescue Kits, to make a real difference in your community.

Yes sorry. Our aim is to help as many fire stations across the U.K. receive the training and equipment needed. Our aim is to provide support so that as many U.K. fire engines as possible carry a Skyla Small Animal Rescue Kit and we will not be focusing on other areas.
Absolutely! The easiest way is to reach out to your local fire station and make them aware of The Skyla Project. Find out more on our How You Can Help page.
U.K. Fire and Rescue Services have been severely underfunded for many years now with services being asked to do more for less. This means that small animal rescue is not one of their core functions and therefore, not a priority when it comes to allocating already limited funds. Find out more about the recent 'Cuts Kill' campaign by the Fire Brigade Union for more information on this topic.
Each kit will include 3 oxygen therapy masks of varying sizes, 2 basket muzzles, a slip lead, animal handling gloves and a heavy duty animal control pole. All supplied in a bespoke bag to be used on scene.
Yes. They can be treated the same as breathing apparatus masks and therefore sanitised in the same way
